Australian Marine Lithium Price Research Methodology
How Australian marine lithium battery, installation and conversion prices will be collected, normalised, dated and reported without invented averages.
Australian marine lithium prices vary because the battery is only one part of the project. Vessel condition, system voltage, alternator strategy, inverter power, solar, cable replacement, protection, access, labour and documentation can change the installed cost substantially.
This methodology defines the evidence required before the site publishes national or regional price claims. Until enough current observations exist, price pages remain unpublished rather than presenting an invented average.
What counts as a price observation
A usable observation is a dated Australian retail price, written estimate, formal quotation or final invoice that identifies enough of the scope to compare it with other observations. It must show or allow the research record to identify:
- date and Australian region;
- GST treatment;
- battery manufacturer, model, voltage and nominal energy;
- whether freight is included;
- charging, protection, cabling, monitoring and inverter scope;
- labour and commissioning scope where installed;
- assumptions about existing equipment; and
- exclusions or owner-supplied components.
A verbal figure without scope may inform a research lead but does not enter a published average.
Product prices and installation prices remain separate
Battery retail prices are not combined with complete installation quotes. Product tracking records the exact model and seller. Installation research records the complete system and work scope.
This prevents a low battery-only price from being compared with a quotation that includes alternator control, shore charging, cable replacement, an inverter, drawings and commissioning.
Normalising different systems
Where useful, observations may be compared using:
- AUD per nominal kWh;
- AUD per manufacturer-permitted working kWh;
- installed AUD per kWh;
- labour hours and stated hourly rate;
- charging watts installed;
- inverter continuous power; and
- total project cost by vessel and use pattern.
Normalised figures remain secondary to the full scope. Two systems with the same battery energy can have very different safety, charging and resilience outcomes.
Sample size and publication threshold
A national or regional range should normally use at least five current, comparable observations and disclose the number, collection period and inclusion rules. Small or highly varied samples are labelled clearly and are not presented as a market average.
The median is preferred when a small number of unusually large projects would distort a simple mean. Minimum and maximum figures are published only with enough scope information to explain why they differ.
Updates, outliers and conflicts
Retail prices should be rechecked at least quarterly while a price comparison remains prominent. Installation observations retain their quote or invoice date. Obvious data-entry errors are removed; legitimate high or low quotes remain, with the scope explaining the difference.
Suppliers and installers may correct factual details but cannot pay to remove a valid observation. Identifiable private quotations are published only with permission or in appropriately aggregated form.
Submit evidence
Boat owners, installers and suppliers can use the contact page to contribute a redacted quote, invoice or current price source. Personal contact details, vessel identifiers and unrelated commercial information should be removed before submission.
Until a price page meets this standard, use the hidden conversion cost checklist and quote comparison guide to obtain vessel-specific figures.
